How to Allow Advertisements

While installing Firefox, we installed the Adblock Plus extension. This was done to prevent eliminate most advertisements so we can focus our attention on Internet Marketing research. While this may seem counter-intuitive, we will be allowing advertisments from sources we trust just as we allowed scripts in the previous tutorial.

A word of caution: Blocking advertisements is a powerful tool you should use with respect. Many web sites on the Internet give you free content in exchange for you viewing (and possibly clicking) advertisements. You should always allow advertisements from any web site you visit regularly -- if you don't the web site may not make enough money to continue providing you free service.

We are installing this plugin due to evil people in that are using Internet Marketing and the researchers to steal money. I have seen web pages that looked like they should be quick loading, but I noticed they were taking a long time to load and causing my browser to freeze for minutes while the site loads. Upon inspecting their code, I discovered that the pages had up to 100 hidden items that are all there simply to increase the hit count for 100 different domains. When I inspected the domains, I discovered that the web page owner is making money from "showing me" the page -- except he is not showing any pages because it is hidden in his web page

Adblock Plus has an icon in the upper toolbars, right beside the address bar that has the letters 'ABP' in it.

Adblock Deny Advertisements

To allow a domain, click the Red ABP icon to open the menu.

In this example, we are going to disable Adblock on this web site. So, move your mouse over 'Disable on splash.3esd.com' and click it.

The menu will close, but the ABP icon will turn green indicating that Adblock Plus is not blocking on this web site.
