Configure the Google Toolbar

If you do not have the Google Toolbar installed, visit Toolbar for Firefox Help Center to install the toolbar.

The first time you run Firefox, you will need to configure the Google Toolbar. You will be presented with a dialog that looks like this:

Google Toolbar Configuration

If you prefer another search engine, pick it from the first pull down "Select your search site".

Leave the check boxes checked.

Select the radio button beside "Enable PageRand and Enhanced Safe Browsing".

The last checkbox "Help us improve Firefox and Google Toolbar by sending us usage statistics" is an optional setting that is completely up to your preference. You can click the "Learn More" link for more details and to help you make this decision.

Click the Finish button when the adjustments are made.

The Google Toolbar will be installed at the bottom of your toolbars, as shown in the next image. The Google Toolbar is the entire last line -- the picture below has the right part of the bar cut off as it is too long to show accurately here.

Google Toolbar Left View

You will also notice that you have two different places on your toolbar to enter searches. One in the Google Toolbar (in the bottom toolbar to the left) and the second will be beside the current page link, shown below:

Google Toolbar Right View

You can fix this by turning one of them off. Click the Options button on the Google Toolbar (shown in the last image on the bottom toolbar. This will open the "Google Toolbar Options" dialog.

Google Toolbar Options

Click the "More" tab at the top:

Google Toolbar Tabs

On the More page, towards the bottom, find the "Layout Options" button and click it:

Google Toolbar Layout Button

This will bring up the "Layout Options" Dialog shown below

Google Toolbar Layour Dialog

On this dialog, you want to pick either of the last two. Either one will eliminate the second search box.

The first choice "Replace Firefox Search Box" will simply remove the second box shown on the Google toolbar itself.

The second choice will hide the Google Toolbar. Even though it is hidden, it will continue to provide popup blocking and safe browsing features. Anyone that prefers less "clutter" would prefer this option.

Once you have made your choice, click "OK", which will return you to the "Google Toolbar Options". Click "OK" on this dialog to close it and save your settings.

Make sure your browser toolbars are appealing to you and make adjustments as necessary. If you want to change them at a later date, you can always return to this page for assistance.
